Welcome to the Gaming News Canada Show podcast presented by Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, road show edition.

A steady stream of visitors dropped by the palatial GNC/Homestand Sports booth (Ok, neat and tidy is a better way to put it) on the final day of the Canadian Gaming Summit. Mitch Davidson, the chief of staff for iGaming Ontario, kicked off the pod by answering our questions around the economic development report that the conductor and manager of the province’s regulated sports betting and igaming industry released on Wednesday. In case you missed it, the research conducted by Jeff Harris’s team at Deloitte Canada on behalf of iGO included estimates of more than 12,000 full-time jobs being created across the province in Year 1, and a contribution of nearly $1.6 billion to Ontario’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Regular GNC contributors Amanda Brewer of Kindred Group and Nic Sulsky from PointsBet Canada also weighed in on the report and joined FOGNC Benjie Cherniak of Avenue H Capital for their thoughts on the report, what it might mean for regulated gambling beyond Ontario, a summary of the panel discussions and sundry other conversations on the Summit floor this week. SBC marketing director Dennis Algreen stopped by to accept some bouquets on SBC’s very successful maiden performance hosting the Canadian Gaming Summit, and also did some pumping of the proverbial tires for the SBC Summit Barcelona in September.

Canadian Gaming Association president/CEO Paul Burns provided a few bon mots about the conference and gave us an update on the CGA’s conversations with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to find some common ground on the hot-button issue of sports betting advertising. Lastly, iGO executive director Martha Otton stopped by the booth and made an impromptu first appearance on the podcast by giving her thoughts on a busy week meeting with stakeholders in Canada’s only regulated gambling industry.
